I remember my roommate telling me about the mass shooting and feeling shock (after having been numbed for a while from a lot of awful news) and shedding tears. I remember seeing a swastika on the side of a business near Kingsway and Broadway; hate speech against Muslims on a garage in my East Van neighbourhood earlier that month. I remember the rabbi at a vigil in Coast Salish Territories blow a rams horn in solidarity for the warnings of what was to come and the signalling that it is time to come together and fight back. I think that power continues as though nothing has happened –colonialism and white supremacy’s logic hides the reality of its existence.
