I’m from Ottawa, but when the Quebec City Mosque shooting happened, I was in Singapore, where my husband and I were temporarily located. When it’s night in Quebec City, it’s morning in Singapore. I was doing some freelance work on my computer, and I guess I checked CBC or Twitter or something, because I found out about the shooting very soon after it happened.

I’ve been alarmed for a while about all the hate-mongering rhetoric that’s been circulating in Canada about Islam. I was very sad about this incident. It feels like there’s not much one can do against all the forces that stir people up against one another.

But individuals can keep talking. This shooting was very alarming and I want it to get the attention it deserves. So I’m commenting today in this place.
