When I heard about the mosque shootings I thought, “This is for Muslims what the December 6, 1989 Montreal femicide was for me, a feminist sound engineer in Montreal. It is an extreme manifestation of the hostility that we feel coming at us every day because of who we are.” I felt empathy and compassion for all Muslims in Canada. I hope, as a Canadian and a Quebecoise, that our Muslim neighbours can feel – and be – safe and welcome. Here in Ontario I work to fight Islamophobia and to confront the hatred with love.
